Barron River Half Day White Water Rafting from Cairns
The Barron River is just north of Cairns and winds it's way down from the Atherton Tablelands over the mighty Barron Falls and through the Barron Gorge which is where your White Water Rafting begins. A half day activity White Water Rafting is over grade 2 and 3 rapids so is ideal for those who have never done White Water Rafting before.
Barron River White Water Rafting pick up
Your Barron River half day White Water Rafting adventure begins when you are picked up from your Cairns accommodation around 2.00pm by the Raging Thunder courtesy bus for the short 20 minute trip out to the Barron River. You will be returned to your Cairns accommodation around 6.00pm. This leaves your morning free to either sleep in or do another activity such as Hot Air Ballooning over the Atherton Tablelands.
After some pre White Water Rafting tuition from your river guide you will take on the rapids of the Barron River. You will be spending 2 hours on the river during the day.
Barron River White Water Rafting Rapids
Your raft will be controlled by a highly professional and highly trained river guide, your guide will teach you the correct techniques to navigate the rapids and to control the raft. Your guide is a fountain of knowledge and will also share the history of this unique rainforest gorge landscape that most people never get to see.
Like any adventure activity White Water Rafting carries inherent risks and you will be required to sign an indemnity form to that effect on the day. All participants are fitted with life jackets and helmets as a safety precaution at the top of the Tully River. You must wear these at all times while on the raft.
Pregnancy and rafting do not go together. You must also be able to swim to participate in White Water Rafting. You can discuss any medical conditions on the day with your river guide. People with allergies should be carrying their own Epi Pen to give to the guide to hold during White Water Rafting.
Tea and Coffee
Your White Water Rafting tour includes tea and coffee at the end of your White Water Rafting trip on the Barron River.
Clothing you should wear for White Water Rafting is basically the same as you would wear to the beach, you are definately going to get wet. Board shorts are recommended for both guys and girls. Make sure you bring a towel and a set of dry clothes you can change into after your Barron River White Water Rafting adventure. Swimming costume, high factor sunscreen. Money for photos and local fees.
On the Raft
You bring only yourself onto your Barron River White Water Raft. All other items are left at the bottom of the river. If you need to take medication during the day you would give the medication to your guide who will arrange for it to be carried on the White Water Rafting trip. Cameras are not recommended as there is a high probabilty they would be lost or damaged during the trip down the river rapids. If you wear prescription glasses you should have a strap attached to them.
Raging Thunder have digital photographers along the river and you are able to purchase images on a USB stick. If you are traveling with more than one person you are able to split the cost for this.
Trip depart daily from Cairns from 2.00pm and will return to Cairns around 6.00pm
