Owned and operated by local Hervey Bay identity Peter Lynch. Peter has a wealth of experience with whales having operated his whale watching cruises for years in Hervey Bay and also as a Marine Mammal trainer for 8 years.
Peters boat the Blue Dolphin takes small groups only on longer 1 day cruise with lunch included. The Blue Dolphin is low to the water and is the only sailing vessel in the Whale Watching Fleet. Peter supplied us with a multitude of photos taken from the Blue Dolphin to demonstrate just how close he can get you to our whales.
Will you see Whales & Dolphins?.....we won't tell you about it you can look at Peters photos & see for yourself, just click on the link above or the image to go to his pages. The Blue Dolphin picks up and drops off at your Hervey Bay accommodation.
The Blue Dolphin is the only sailing boat offering Whale Watching Tours. A 10.5 metre Catamaran which is 7 metres wide the vessel offers ample room to move around for optimum viewing of whales, the vessel is very stable and has shaded viewing areas.
The Blue Dolphin offers Eye to Eye viewing, the vessel sits lower in the water than most vessels and this allows you to take close up photos of these magnificent mammals. A Hydrophone increases the intensity of the experience by allowing you to hear the underwater sounds as they happen.
The Blue Dolphin is surveyed to take 30 people but Peter limits to 22 passengers so that everyone gets an opportunity to interact with the whales and dolphins and to enable passengers to get those "magic photo oppotunities", the crew have more time to talk to you and this allows for a "True Ecotourism Experience" in Queensland, Australia.
It is a relaxed casual atmosphere on board and the cruising speed is around 6 - 7 knots motoring, greater with wind speed. About 2 - 3 hours of travelling time.

Dolphin Watch Cruises and Champagne Sunset Cruises:
When Whale Season is over the Blue Dolphin offers Dolphin Watch and Marine Tours.
The morning Dolphin Cruise is on the waters of the Great Sandy Strait. Here we look for the bottlenose dolphins and the indo-pacific humpback dolphin, a lesser known species. The waters are home to dugongs, turtles, seabirds and other marine life.
Our cruise started back in December 1996 and we have maintained a 90% to 95 % success rate for finding the dolphins.
The cruise last for around 4 hours and morning tea is provided. During summer and weather permitting we also manage a swim on one of the shallow sand banks.
The bottlenose dolphin is the better known of the two species and we now have about 25 individuals we can recognized by their dorsal fin. We have been working on a photo id catalogue for the last couple of years.
The indo-pacific humpback is a little bit smaller and a little harder to find and photograph them can be a difficult task but can be well worth it. Most guest have never seen this species before so it is always a good day when we see them.
The dugongs of the Great Sandy Strait have been heavily impacted upon in the recent years by floods down the Mary and Susan River systems and the loss of the sea grass beds. On the days that we encounter a dugong it is a great bonus for all onboard.
