The Daintree stands as a jewel in Far North Queensland. Pristine Canopy Rainforest, a primeval mix of vines, palms, cycads and some of the oddest animal life you've ever seen.
Beautiful waterfalls surrounded by cool lush rainforest, this is the land of the Cassowary and the Crocodile. Australia has known of this area for many years and it affects different people in different ways.
In the 60's and the 70's people in their hundreds flocked here forsaking modern living for a simple life in the rainforest. Places like Daintree and Cape Tribulation were the home of the hippy. Police raids were commonplace.
Even today you will find people trying to live in the rainforest, building simple lean to's to sleep in or elaborate bush houses made of timber and rock. This is illegal in this day and age but the call of the rainforest can be so strong people still try to live this way today.
The Daintree is a major tourist destination with hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. It is a must see on most peoples itinerary and a special place of great beauty and secluded cool relaxing places that you will never want to leave. You can go on a crocodile cruise on the Daintree River and walk the forest canopy on a guided rainforest tour.
