Cairns to Kuranda
Scenic Sky Rail Tour
(Photos by our valued clients Tony and Anna from the U.K.)
After departing the train at Kuranda Railway Station you now have some free time to wander around Kuranda. Kuranda was once home to a thriving hippy scene. I guess we are all a little bit older now and Kuranda has undergone a change catering to a large tourism market.
Still a beautiful little town with loads of character you have time to take bush walks, do a bit of shopping at the markets and to grab some lunch. You will board the Skyrail around 1.30pm for the exciting trip through the rainforest canopy to the bottom of the mountain range and Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park for some spear throwing and boomerang throwing lessons. There will also be an interesting Aboriginal Dance Theatre for you to see. Afterwards you will be taken back to your accommodation all transfers are included.
Much controversy surrounded the building of the Skyrail. Greenies of the day were very active trying to stop the track being cut to lay the Skyrail. One dedicated greenie lived on a platform high in the branches of a huge tree refusing to come down until the Skyrail project was abandoned. He lived there for over 12 months and as you can now see, was unsuccessful in his attempt.
The rainforest has healed from the laying of the towers and we now have a world class attraction that you can enjoy and without setting foot in the environment.
