Attention Note: This tour is suitable only for FIT & ACTIVE people who can hike 5-9 kilometres a day over uneven terrain in high temperatures. Temperatures can be extreme i.e. high in summer days and very cold during winter nights. This operator reserves the right to asses the fitness capability of passengers prior to the tour departure. Tour is not suitable for children. Due the remote nature of the Kimberley region we use bush camps with NO facilities on several nights. There is a STRICT LUGGAGE LIMIT of 15kgs per person.
Hiking Difficulty: Hikes of up to 6-9 kilometres per day. Some hikes are strenuous with climbing and swimming.
Cost per person: $1695.00 AUD plus $15 fuel levy
Recommended Age: 18 - 45 for fit active people.
Included: Experienced guides, meals as indicated, camping fees & equipment or dorm accommodation, National Park entry fees.
What to Bring: Sturdy walking shoes (ankle high), hat & sunscreen, towel & toiletries, swimming gear, warm clothing in winter, water bottle, torch, insect repellent, camera & film, pillow, sleeping bag (can be hired for $15)
Broome to Darwin Day 1: Broome to Windjana Gorge
We begin our adventure travelling from Broome to Derby to visit the famous Boab Prison Tree. Then we tackle the Gibb River Road on our way to Tunnel Creek to explore ancient limestone caves. We view the abundant wildlife of Windjana Gorge, before settling into our overnight campsite at Windjana Gorge National Park. (LD)
Broome to Darwin Day 2: Gibb River Road & Gorges
We experience the splendour of the King Leopold Range before hiking into picturesque Bell Gorge taking the time to relax and take a refreshing swim. Overnight bush camp. (BLD)
Broome to Darwin Day 3: Gibb River Road & Gorges
A great day of swimming and hiking as we explore some of the Kimberley's striking gorges - maybe Barnett, Manning, Adcock or Galvans depending on the time of year. Overnight bush camp. (BLD)
Broome to Darwin Day 4: Gibb River Road to Parry Farm
We continue along the rugged Gibb River Road, travelling through some ancient and spectacular gorges before crossing the Pentecost River and heading to the famous El Questro Station. We walk into the beautiful Cockburn Ranges for a swim under the waterfall at Emma Gorge. We call in at Wyndham and the Five Rivers Lookout before heading to our overnight camp at Diggers Rest Cattle Station or Parry Farm. (BLD)
Broome to Darwin Day 5: Parry Farm to Bungle Bungles
We start the day visiting the bird watchers paradise of Marlgu Billabong, then sit back and admire the awesome scenery of the Carr Boyd and Durack Ranges as we head to Turkey Creek. We take a challenging 4WD trip into the Bungle Bungle (Purnululu) National Park for sunset over the Osmond Ranges and our overnight bush camp. (BLD)
Day 6: Bungle Bungles National Park
We spend a full day exploring the unusual rock formations of the Bungle Bungle Ranges, visiting the unique Frog Hole, the breathtaking Echidna Chasm and the magnificent Cathedral Gorge. We have time for an optional scenic helicopter flight (at own expense) over the Bungles before heading to our overnight bush camp. (BLD)
Day 7 - Bungle-Bungles to Kununurra
This morning we engage 4WD to wind our way out of the Bungle-Bungles before heading to the capital of the north - Kununurra. This afternoon we explore Hidden Valley; just a stones throw from Kununurra township. (BLD) (CP)
Day 8 - Kununurra to Victoria River
This morning we drive out to Lake Argyle and the Ord River Dam. Time to take in the magnificent expanse of the largest man made lake in Australia. This afternoon we cross the border into the Northern Territory. Time permitting we may have a look in at the Keep River National Park before heading to our camp on the Victoria River. (BLD) (BC)
Day 9 - Victoria River to Darwin
We begin our final leg this morning with the short leg to Katherine where we have a brief visit to Katherine (Nitmiluk) Gorge. Heading north now we stop at Edith Falls for a final refreshing and relaxing swim before heading into Darwin where sadly we farewell our new found friends. (B.L.)
