Adelaide to Darwin Tour Day 1:
Adelaide to Quorn
Departing from Adelaide early morning the tour travels through the Clare Valley to the town of Melrose where you will take a walk across a swinging bridge to take in the views from the Mount Remarkable Lookout, stunning scenery here. A short trip further to the town of Quorn, a historical railway town located at the entrance to the Richman Valley. You will stop for lunch before undertaking the hike to the top of Duchman’s Stern for 360 degree views over the Flinders Ranges, the Spencer Gulf and Quorn! Returning to Quorn the tour overnights at the “Mill” which has a rich history. This is the first of two nights here and tonight you get to enjoy a traditional Aussie BBQ at it’s best.

Adelaide to Darwin Day 2:
Flinders Ranges and Wilpena Pound
One of Australia’s national landscapes the Flinders Ranges is one of the most scenic locations in Australia and today you get to explore them. Wilpena Pound is a large natural amphitheatre which is in a massive stone crater. There is ample time to hike and explore this natural wonder. The tour breaks for lunch and then it is on to Yourambulla Caves to view ancient aboriginal rock art. Viewing the ruins of the Kanyaka Homestead you learn about the hardships of sheep farming in the 1800’s. The tour then heads back to the “Mill” in Quorn spotting local wildlife on the way to your overnight stopover.

Adelaide to Darwin Day 3:
Quorn to Cooberpedy
This morning you will head to the quirky Opal Mining town of Cooberpedy where you get to go underground in a town where many people live underground.  The tour journey’s north through Port Augusta and the town of Glendambo (population 30). You stop to view the ancient salt lakes which are a remnant of an inland sea before arriving at Cooberpedy. With time to spare you spend the rest of the day exploring the many and colourful sights of this weird outback mining town. Try your luck at prospecting for Opals, take a tour of an opal mine and see an opal cutting demonstration before heading to your overnight and “underground” accommodation.

Adelaide to Darwin Day 4:
Cooberpedy to Uluru
After an early start the tour travels through the changing landscape and desert country to reach Ulura just in time for the famous Ayers Rock Sunset. Everyone lends a hand to create and enjoy dinner tonight before settling in for some serious stargazing at the overnight permanent camp. The option is there for you to sleep under the stars in a traditional Aussie Swag.

Adelaide to Darwin Day 5:
Uluru to Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon
It’s a full day today, over breakfast you view the Uluru Sunrise after which you have time to take a base walk of Ayers Rock or if you are fit, climb to the top of Ayers Rock. It is further than it looks from the bottom of the climb and not recommended if you are not fit. Take an interpretive walk at Mala before visiting Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and then heading off for the permanent overnight camp at the mighty Kings Canyon.

Adelaide to Darwin Day 6:
Kings Canyon to Alice Springs
This morning after a hearty breakfast it is time to explore Kings Canyon and there is a lot to see. Take in the towering North and South walls of the Canyon, do a rim walk and visit the “Lost City”, the Amphitheatre and the Garden of Eden where you can take an invigorating swim (seasonal).  After lunch it is time to settle back and take in the desert scenery as the tour travels on to Alice Springs arriving in the early evening

Alice Springs
You have two days to enjoy the sites in Alice Springs

Adelaide to Darwin Day 9:
Alice Springs to Tennant Creek
It’s an early start this morning as the tour hits the Stuart Highway crossing the Tropic of Capricorn and stopping at the Ti Tree Roadhouse to view aboriginal artifacts. From Ti Tree the next stop is the Devils Marbles sacred to local aboriginals and very large unusual rounded formations of boulders. From here it is off to the overnight camp at an outback station where you can also swim if you feel like it. Overnight permanent bush camp near Tennant Creek.

Adelaide to Darwin Day 10:
Tennant Creek to Katherine Gorge
After a compulsory stop at the Daly Waters pub it’s time to soak yourself in the warm thermal waters of Mataranka Hot Springs, once rejuvenated the tour moves onto the overnight camp near the magnificent Katherine Gorge.

Adelaide to Darwin Day 11:
Katherine Gorge to Darwin
This morning you have time to explore Katherine Gorge and see a freshwater crocodile if you are lucky. You are able to take a helicopter ride, a canoe paddle or a guided cruise at your own expense to view the Gorge Walls and wildlife.  This afternoon the tour stops at picturesque Edith Falls where you can take a refreshing swim if you wish. The final stop is Adelaide River home to many large crocodiles before the tour stops in Darwin in the early evening for a break. Overnight in Darwin.

Adelaide to Darwin Day 12:
Darwin to Mary River
Today you visit the waterfalls of Litchfield National Park before traveling to the Mary River System for your private wildlife cruise. This is where the big crocodiles live and there is abundant birdlife as well.  Make sure you bring your camera. Overnight permanent camp at Point Stuart Wilderness Lodge.

Adelaide to Darwin Day 13:
Mary River to Kakadu
Your first stop this morning is at Ubirr rock in Kakadu to view ancient aboriginal rock art. This art is considered to be some of the finest examples in the world.  Climb to the top of Ubirr to get 360 degree views over the Nardab floodplains.  From Ubirr the next stop is at Maguk (Barramundi Gorge) where you are able to have a refreshing swim after a hike to the falls. Overnight at bush camp in Kakadu.

Adelaide to Darwin Day 14:
Kakadu to Darwin
They saved the best part til last for this tour. Today it’s time to engage the four wheel drive and head along the sandy tracks and creek crossings to the might Jim Jim Falls.  Hiking through the bush you will arrive at the massive plunge pool at the base of Jim Jim Falls. Another hike takes you to Twin Falls where you will take an interpretive cruise and boardwalk with a local guide. The tour will then head off passing spectacular scenery as it makes it’s way back to Darwin arriving in the early evening (accommodation not included this night).

Note:
Safaris must be reconfirmed by 4.00pm the day before travel.  Itineraries may vary and/or attractions may be substituted due to seasonal conditions, Traditional Owner and National Park requirements.  15 kilos luggage maximum on tour (about the same as the airlines). If you have more luggage than this you must talk to the operator about freighting the excess ahead to the tours end. You must do this when reconfirming your tour.

This tour is comprised of three separate tours so tour groups will vary.

Departures from Adelaide
Departs all year at 7.00am on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.  A central location in Adelaide for boarding this tour will be given when we confirm your booking. Please include your Adelaide accommodation details when booking.

Reconfirming:
This operator requires you to phone and reconfirm at least 24 hours prior to departure. This is a condition of booking and something you must not forget to do.

On Tour Accommodation:
Accommodation while on tour is at permanent and bush campsites as well as hostel accommodation in a share dormitory with other travelers or with upgrade to private ensuited motel or lodge rooms for 3 nights.

What to Bring:
Refillable water bottle, Pillow for camping if required, towel, toiletries, insect repellent, sun block cream, hat, torch, warm clothes in winter months, good hiking shoes (preferably ankle high) no open toed sandals or flip flops (thongs). Any snacks you can’t live without.

Passenger Fitness:
This tour is ideally for fit active people who have a degree of fitness aged between 18 to 50, you should be able to undertake a return hike of up to 8 kilometres with no problems. This tour is not suitable for children under the age of 14 years of age.

Passenger Participation:
Passengers are required to assist the guide in the preparation and cleaning up of meals. This also helps you to get to know everyone.

Itineraries are subject to change in accordance with the weather (seasonal) and the wishes of the traditional Aboriginal owners wishes. Alternate locations are used if required.
